STOP DRINKING BUDWEISER!

Anheuser-Busch now considers me a “Beermaster.” Whoop-dee-&#^%$-DOO! I attended their hokey “school” (essentially an extended commercial for Budweiser). What do they teach you? They teach why their beer is better than their competitors through vague descriptions, misinformation, jingoistic patriotism and Budweiser-pride that cause you to check your shoe sole to see what you stepped in.

They had trouble with a few questions… like how come the Bud label claims (paraphrasing) it uses the most expensive ingredients and that A-B knows of no other brand that costs as much to brew. So… if that is true, why is Michelob more expensive and considered their “Super-Premium” beer?

Cheers!

I think actually he way they present it is The highest quality ingredients... but that's based on the ingredients THEY use to brew Bud beer. Budweiser is a rice based beer. The reason Michelob is considered the more "premium" beer, is because is brewed with actual hops and barely. Not great ones, but still. Frankly, the only Budweiser beer I will drink, if there's anyway to avoid it, is Zeigenbock. They make enough money without my little extra being thrown in. I'd rather spend my money either one a good beer I really like, or some of the independent breweries that make a really good beer and don't have the distribution base that AB has.

Actually, the Bud label says something to the effect of "We know of no beer anywhere that is as costly to produce, blah, blah, blah" so they do mention the expense they supposedly incur.

Budweiser uses rice as an adjunct to the barley but the primary grain used in Bud is still malted barley. Michelob is a very similar grain bill with the addition of some very lightly kilned Crystal malt. They both use real hops. I have been in the hop room at A-B's Fairfield, CA brewery and it was amazing!

Zeigenbock is okay but I prefer the beer that they are trying to emulate with it, Shiner Bock. Though not a bock beer, I find it flavorful and satisfying. Zeigenbock is a bit sweeter than Shiner Bock.

For the record, A-B hasn't received any money from me, personally, since the 80's. Bud Light is served in the opening round of the beer dinner's to which I am the guest speaker at the local country club. We serve everyone three 3 oz. glasses of beer; Bud Light and Coors Light. Two are of one brand and one is the other. We ask everyone if they can tell which one is DIFFERENT. For many people it is _very_ tough. We proceed to explore many different beer styles, from helles to barleywines, paired with various food courses.

Used bath water maybe?

A-B gets very little of my money, but I'd love to take that class just so I could be a pain in their ass.
My beer drinking life is pretty much in hell. My doctor has me on a low carb diet so I'm limited to stuff like Michelob Ultra or Miller Lite. This really sucks 'cause my favorites are darker beers/ales like Negra Modelo, Guinness, Fuller's ESB, Ommegang, and Sam Adams Cream Stout.
It's a good thing tequila has no carbs :)

Get a second opinion!

What do doctors know anyway?!

Based on what you like to drink, we're gonna get along fine... Fuller's ESB is easily one of my regular-drinking favorites.

My reason for taking the class was to ask a bunch of tough questions and I did that every time they said something that didn't make sense to me (I'm a UC Davis Fermentation Sciences grad), so I had some snide fun.

Since I've stopped drinking real beer, I've substituted with my other favorites. Good tequila(Cuervo Gold is the Bud of tequila) and Mexican brandy(Presidente mostly).
Is it cool if I add you?

Quite coincidentally, I happen to be sipping a Patron Reposado right now! You can add me if you like. My sleep-deprived ramblings are also about music, photography and wine.
